Brisbane Port Closure
Due to the current flood events being experienced in South East Queensland the Harbour Master has suspended all vessel movements to/from the Port of Brisbane.
Days of intense rainfall across the region has washed debris into the Brisbane River, causing the decision to suspend the movement of vessels at the port. As such the port remains closed to all ship movements as of Tuesday afternoon.
The Harbour Master is assessing the situation on an ongoing, case-by-case basis with the aim of reopening the port as soon as it is safe to do so. On Monday night, Maritime Safety Queensland announced it had closed the Brisbane River to all ships and watercraft to safeguard lives and infrastructure. Tides and currents at the port are too dangerous for even large ships to navigate in.
As such, please be aware that at this stage no vessel is planned to arrive/depart and advertised ETA’s and ETD’s are to be re-confirmed while vessel movements have ceased.
DP World has released notification that their terminal will be ceasing export receivals as of 2200hrs yesterday until Thursday 3/3. It is expected that other terminals will follow suit.
Unfortunately the widespread flooding, damage to road, rail and other infrastructure and future flooding that is yet to occur will continue to cause disruptions to landside operations in and around the Port of Brisbane and surrounding areas.
Vessels will be either delayed and/or forced to omit Brisbane over the next couple of weeks. Roads around Brisbane (along with surrounding regions) remain flooded and the rail / buses / river waterways all remain closed until such time as water resides and an assessments can be made.
Our office is operating as normal and we will continue to service our customers as best we can during this time.
