CaroTrans Market Update - Nov 13th
Canadian Port Labor Update
The Canadian government has decided to intervene and order port operations to resume in Vancouver and Montreal. Binding arbitration is being imposed on both parties to facilitate a new agreement moving forward, and the terms of the previous agreement are being extended while the new one is being negotiated. The rail embargoes recently implemented are expected to be lifted soon, and anchored vessels should begin working over the next few days. Delays are expected over the next few weeks as the terminals work through the backlog.Spain Flooding
The effects of severe storms and flooding are being felt in Spain. Damage to the rail lines has caused re-routing of trains, traffic restrictions have been imposed due to damage to roads and buildings, and overall trucking capacity has been affected by the number of trucks damaged in the storms. A bypass road is being constructed alongside the main damaged highway in Valencia, which should help clear some of the container delivery backlog. Some coastal areas of Spain are expected to receive further storms this week. This situation will be monitored closely, and it is hoped that it will not cause further damage or hinder relief efforts.CaroTrans can confirm that the Valencia CFS has resumed activity for import and export operations.
